Creating Torrents with µTorrent

If you use µTorrent, you can use the following guide to ensure that everything is done correctly.

1. Create a directory somewhere in your computer, and give it a name related to the files you wish to share.  Place a copy of all the files you want to share inside this folder.

2. Open µTorrent, and from it’s menu, click on File -> Create new torrent.  You’ll be presented with the following screen:

3. Click on “Add directory” and select the directory you created in step 1.
Left mouse click in the “Trackers:” field and add http://YOUR_TRACKER_HERE.com/announce.php
You can check this with the address provided at the top of the upload panel opened when you commence step 5.
Left mouse click in the in the “Comment” field and add a short comment about your torrent.  This is optional.
Leave “Start Seeding” unchecked and – CHECK “Private Torrent”.

4. Click on “Create and save as”, and save the torrent to your desktop.  When this has finished, click on “Close”

5. Return to TB, and select “Upload Torrent”.  After reading the “Upload Rules”, continue to scroll down to the next panel and click on the “browse” button next to the “Torrent File” field.  Select the .torrent file you created on step 4.

6. If your files include an .nfo file, select it by choosing the “browse” button next to the “NFO File” field.

7. Move to the next field and add a name for your upload.  Try to make it indicate what is contained in the torrent you are about to upload.  Eg  Grunge.Alchemist_Hyperdistorted

8.  In the “Description” field, add a description.  Keep in mind that the better the information that you provide in your description, the more likely it is that people will understand your torrent and begin to download it.

9. Choose a category for your upload from the drop down box in the next field, by selecting the one that is the closest match to your torrent.

10.  Having done all that, click on “Upload Torrent”

If everything is correct, you’ll be redirected to the “Upload successful”  page of your newly uploaded torrent.

11. Click on the link to download the torrent (same as you would normally do when downloading).  When uTorrent asks you where you want to save the files to, point it to the directory where you created the folder that you put the files into (not to the folder itself).  It should then check your files, and then start seeding.
