Managing your torrents on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch

The iPhone 4 has been released lately and here is one more method you can put to good use with your iPhone. But, don’t worry, this tutorial works on all iPhones.
Note: This tutorial is demonstrated using Macintosh OSX, but it will work on most operating systems.

Applications Needed:

Trackr (iPhone App)
Transmission
Dropbox

Step One: Dropbox

You will need a dropbox account, but don’t worry its completely free. You can goto this link and sign up www.dropbox.com (Referral link is added so I can get 250MB more space).
You will need to install the software that they provided. It will ask you about your account, just use the account you just made.

Step Two: Transmission (Transmission)

You will also need to install the Transmission bittorrent client. If you are unsure how to install it, please see this link: Transmission

Third step – Trackr (Muzi Software – Home) $2.99

This third step is not free since it requires Muzi Software’s Trackr (RSS Tool for Dropbox). You can get that over at the iTunes Store.

Trackr is essentially both a web browser and an RSS reader, the only difference is that it allows you to download links to either your iPhone or to a folder it creates in your Dropbox. Ignore the reviewers of the product, they don’t see the full usage potential.

Once you have the App installed on on your iPhone, please fill in the details of your Dropbox account. Once you have finished that, Trackr will install a folder called “trackr” in your Dropbox.

You will add the Trackers that you wish to keep “track” off (sorry, lame attempt). You can also add RSS feeds with Trackers that have direct download links. Now you want to make sure you configure your Dropbox account within Trackr.

Once you have downloaded the file, it will be synced with your Trackr directory in your Dropbox folder on your Home computer.

You can now open the Trackr App on your iPhone, upload the torrent (or RSS download feed) from your favorite tracker and in to your iPhone which uploads it to your Trackr directory in Dropbox. Now it will sync it with your home computer, which in turn makes the transmission client scan the directory and automatically add it and start it on your home computer.

You can also enable the Transmission Webui and check the status of uploads. Just point your iPhone Safari browser to your IP address (Tranmission has a custom tailored iPhone Webui).
